Phoenix Art Museum Presents "New Nomads"

PHOENIX, ARIZONA.- The Phoenix Art Museum presents "New Nomads," on view at its Fashion Design Gallery through July 21, 2002. Consider an entirely new fashion concept - Wearable Electronics - a marriage of technology and clothing.  Imagine garments with built in temperature sensors, air filters, satellite positioning, and all that new technology has to offer - traveling with you as part of your clothes.  This exhibition features five prototypets that are just that.  The garments are on loan from Royal Philips Electronics of the Netherlands.

Philips has brought together and integrated the skills of a psychologist, fashion designers, textile scientists and electronics researchers to develop the new concept.  Unlike other electronics designed to be worn within your clothing, Philips’ Wearable Electronics contain no wiring.  The newly developed textiles used as the fabrics for these garments conduct the technology themselves, so the entire piece of clothing is totally integrated with the electronic environment it provides.  Including the prototypes on view in New Nomads, Philips Wearable Electronics offer a visionary glimpse of what might become possible over the next decade or two.
