LOS ANGELES, CA.- On November 19, California and Western Paintings & Sculpture at
Bonhams Los Angeles will feature a collection of forty-eight works from the estate of renowned art dealer and scholar John H. Garzoli. Rare examples from the collection include a spectacular large-scale panorama of Yosemite Valley from Inspiration Point by Thomas Hill, painted in 1888 (estimate: $150,000-250,000) and a rare early California genre painting by William Hahn, The Return Trip from Glacier Point, painted in 1874 (estimate: $150,000-250,000).
The sale is complemented by works from various owners including a sumptuous painting of Flamingos and Tropical Birds by Jessie Arms Botke, (estimate: $80,000-120,000), an impressive Edgar Payne, The Inyo Sierra, in the Eastern Sierras (estimate: $150,000-250,000) and a colorful Granville Redmond, The Antelope Valley (estimate: $120,000-180,000).
Additional Western highlights include a group of Charles Marion Russell bronzes from the Patrick A. Doheny Trust, and Pay Day, a raucous scene of cowboys outside a saloon by Charlie Dye, painted in 1961 (estimate: $60,000-80,000).
