NORWOOD, NJ.- Sterling Associates Inc.’s “Sterling on Broadway” online auction Oct. 10, 2018, coincides with the company’s move to a new office and gallery at 537 Broadway in Norwood, near its former venue on Herbert Avenue in Closter. The 252-lot inaugural auction features fine jewelry, silver and coins, with live online bidding through LiveAuctioneers.

“We’re very pleased that Sterling Associates now has a new, more prominent location on Norwood’s main street, Broadway,” said the company’s owner Stephen D’Atri. “Our Herbert Avenue location will continue to function as a warehouse, but all auction business will be conducted from the new location.”

A marked Cartier vermeil necklace, which can also be worn as a belt, is similar to one that fashion icon Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis was known to wear. Composed of 19 gilt-silver textured links with a 4-inch pendant drop, this item was a popular fashion accessory of the 1970s. It is expected to sell for $1,800-$2,200.

Topping the selection of Tiffany & Co., jewelry is a pair of 18K yellow gold ear clips in the form of dogwood blossoms. Each has five small diamonds set in the center. Estimate: $1,500-$2,000

Romain de Tirtoff (1892-1990), the Russian-born French artist and designer known by the pseudonym Erté, is represented in the auction not by one of the serigraphs for which he was so well known, but by a lovely 14K gold, silver and diamond “Beauty of the Beast” pendant necklace. A stylized beast is depicted on the pendant, which is highlighted with five small diamonds, mother-of-pearl and enamel. The pendant necklace is featured on Page 51 of Erté Art to Wear: The Complete Jewelry.

A sterling silver chalice cup in Sterling Associates’ October 10 auction bears the maker’s marks and hallmarks of French silversmith, sculptor and designer Jean Puiforcat (1897-1945), renowned for his Art Deco creations. The 5 1/8-inch-tall cup with two handles has a $1,000-$1,500 estimate.

Seven lots of Continental silver are listed in the auction catalog, including a sterling tea set consisting of teapot, creamer, sugar bowl and tray, $1,000-$1,200.

The auction contains approximately 100 lots of US and world coins. One of the most anticipated numismatic offerings is a scarce 1847 Hawaii one-cent coin that is graded MS62BN. It is expected to make $1,000-$1,200.

U.S. coins are led by a 1928 P silver Peace Dollar that is NGC-graded MS64. The coin was from a low mintage of 360,649.

More than a dozen pocket watches will also be sold, as well as silver flatware sets and hollowware.

The "Sterling on Broadway" auction featuring fine jewelry, silver and coins will be conducted Wednesday, October 10, starting at 11 Eastern time.
