Tribal Art from the Collection of Allan Stone and Other Owners
Friday, October 19, 12PM, 259 lots

Allan Stone was one of the great collectors of the 20th century and tribal arts were among his strongest passions. This sale, vetted and catalogued by specialist-in-charge John Buxton, includes the Flores Island couple featured as the frontispiece in The Eloquent Dead: Ancestral Sculpture of Indonesia and Southeast Asia; a well-known Fiji Island figure with provenance to the James Hooper Collection, along with other important artifacts from Melanesia and Polynesia; and many fine objects from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, notable among them; a Royal Bamileke sculpture; a fine Lobala drum; and an important Igbo totemic Ikenga post.

Remix: Classic + Contemporary
Saturday, October 20 at 10AM, 691 lots

The furniture, accessories and decorative art in Rago’s Remix auctions reflect how people actually live - not in sterile, gallery-like settings, but in kinetic mixes of old and new, casual and classic, supple and sleek. Buyers who seek American, English, Continental and Asian property from the Northeast’s finer homes, collectors and estates will find it. So, too, will buyers of contemporary design from America, Italy and Scandinavia. Remix: Classic + Contemporary also features fine silver from makers as diverse as Tiffany & Co., Georg Jensen, Gorham Martele and pieces from Mexico and South America, as well as singular accent pieces; portraits, landscapes and abstract art; sculpture and a dash of the unexpected.

Autobiography of a Hoarder: The Collection of Martin Cohen, Part 1
Sunday, October 21 at 10AM, 206 lots

The Collection of Martin Cohen is a rich olio of American and European decorative arts, sculpture and lighting, antiquities, and other works of art that have inspired Cohen, such as that of the renowned outsider sculptor William Edmondson, the first African American artist to be given a one person show at the Museum of Modern Art. The collection on sale bespeaks Cohen’s particular focus on the Aesthetic Movement and his passion for the work of Lockwood de Forest, Herter Brothers and Louis Comfort Tiffany.
