NEW YORK, NY.- Bonhams, the third largest international fine art auction house, announced its May 6 auction of Impressionist and Modern Art in New York. The sale will feature a rare bronze sculpture by Henry Moore entitled “Maquette for Curved Mother and Child,” which was formerly in the collection of acclaimed actress Lauren Bacall and is now being offered from the collection of her son, Stephen Bogart. The maquette carries a pre-sale auction estimate of $150,000-200,000. Lauren Bacall first became interested in Henry Moore in Los Angeles in the 1950s. While visiting the Forte de Belvedere exhibition of Moore's work in Florence in 1972, Ms. Bacall studied many of the sculptures and continued her fervent interest in his work. Venice was considered a hub of Jewish culture over the centuries, with its ghetto being home to a flourishing international Jewish community. In order to properly mark this anniversary, the international organisation Venetian Heritage, in cooperation with Maison Vhernier, has organised the temporary exhibition Treasures of the Jewish Ghetto of Venice, which is being presented at the Winter Palace from 28 April to 6 July 2014. THE HAGUE.- The Golden Room, a spectacular 18th-century room in the Mauritshuis , which includes a series of paintings by Italian painter Giovanni Antonio Pellegrini (1675-1741) has been restored. The 15 wall and ceiling paintings were treated as part of the museum’s larger building project. The restoration of the Pellegrini paintings was undertaken with the support of the Shell Technology Centre Amsterdam. The pictures from the Golden Room are the first to have been returned to the renovated Mauritshuis. The museum will reopen after a two-year renovation on the evening of Friday 27 June. MADRID(AFP).- Pablo Picasso's anti-war masterpiece "Guernica", one of the world's most iconic paintings, on Sunday served as a backdrop to a dance performance for the first time in its 77-year history. About 80 people sat on the floor or stood as Josue Ullate, a bare chested dancer in black tights, jumped and leapt in front of the large black-and-white canvas at Madrid's Reina Sofia Museum. The 20-year-old performed "Quiebro", a piece lasting about five minutes and inspired by a song written by late flamenco singer Enrique Morente that mixes modern ballet with traditional Spanish dance, two times as part of International Dance Day celebrations.
