NEW YORK, NY.- Miles McEnery Gallery announced representation of Marilyn Lerner.

Based in New York City since 1964, artist Marilyn Lerner has developed a distinguished career centered on color theory and soft-edge kaleidoscopic abstractions on wood. Her paintings are informed by her global travels and the evocative relationship between sound and sight, where diverse musical genres directly influence her selection of shapes and palettes.

Lerner utilizes a color theory that is based on instinct; she adheres to a rigorous framework where she prioritizes the interplay of warm and cool colors and ensures each pigment is composed of no fewer than three distinct shades. Speaking with Mary Jones for The Brooklyn Rail, Lerner shares that she feels painting should be “something intangible—that takes you somewhere to give you an experience.”

Marilyn Lerner (b. 1942 in Milwaukee, WI) received her BS from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, WI, and her MFA from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY.

She has held notable solo exhibitions at Butler Gallery, Kilkenny Castle, Kilkenny, Ireland; CUE Art Foundation, New York, NY; John Good Gallery, New York, NY; Kate Werble Gallery, New York, NY; Kornblee Gallery, New York, NY; Robert Morrison Gallery, New York, NY; Sprüth Magers, London, United Kingdom; and Zabriskie Gallery, New York, NY, among others.

Her work has been included in notable group exhibitions at the Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Art, Ridgefield, CT; the Bertha and Karl Leubsdorf Art Gallery, Hunter College, New York, NY; the Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art, Staten Island, NY; Pera Museum, Istanbul, Turkey; P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center, New York, NY; the School of Visual Arts, New York, NY; and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, NY, among others.

Lerner has been the recipient of numerous awards and fellowships, including a Fulbright Scholarship to India, administered by the Council forInternational Exchange of Scholars, Washington, D.C.; National Endowment for the Arts Painting Fellowship, Washington, D.C.; CAPS (Creative Artists Public Service Program) Painting Fellowships, New York, NY; Individual Artist Program support from the New York State Council on the Arts, New York, NY; Drawing Fellowship from the New York Foundation for the Arts, New York, NY; and a BAU Institute Fellowship at the Camargo Foundation, Cassis, France.
