PURCHASE, N.Y.- The Nuberger Museum of Art presents Placing Avery: Selections from the Permanent Collection, on view through September 18, 2005. This exhibition presents works from the Neuberger Museum of Art permanent collection that focus on the artists who influenced Milton Avery and those he influenced.
Milton Avery was among the artists who benefited from Roy R. Neubergers recognition, help and encouragement. Avery was slow to gain public favor, but Roy Neuberger considered him a budding American Matisse and he never wavered in his favorable opinion of the artists work. The exhibition includes a selection from the twenty-nine works by Milton Avery that Roy R. Neuberger donated from his personal collection to establish the Neuberger Museum of Art.Curated by Jacqueline Shilkoff, Neuberger Museum of Art Assistant Curator.
