LONDON, ENGLAND.- F-EST - London’s unique arts initiative – has today announced details of the third annual open weekend for East End Contemporary Galleries. Featuring over 80 participating galleries and museums, F-EST is hosting an ambitious program of tours, commissions and events including the first F-EST commission; undertaken by Artist Rasheed Araeen.
An integral part of the weekend will be the exciting array of gallery tours that will take participants all over the east end. Each of the ten tours focuses on a different borough - from Bethnal Green to Hoxton Square – with walkers being guided through the journey by top art experts including Kathy Battista; Nina Krieger; Ossian Ward; and Charlotte Edwards. If an organized tour is not for you the F-EST map – distributed free throughout the weekend and now in galleries all year round - will be an indispensable guide to anyone looking for the next bright young thing. In addition to the map, a free shuttle bus service will run across the F-EST weekend allowing art connoisseurs to use these two resources to peruse the galleries at their leisure.
This year’s major event sees the introduction of the first F-EST public art commission by eminent installation artist Rasheed Araeen. The interactive commission entitled Deconstructions: ZERO to INFINITY involves 100 open 50cm cubes painted bright blue, laid out in a Minimalist structure. The audience will then be encouraged to reorganize and move the cubes as they see fit – so effectively the audience becomes the artist and a new work is created with every move. With such exciting activity and events this is one weekend when the east end will be shining for all its worth!
