SOUTHAMPTON, PA.- On Friday, Oct. 20, Philadelphia’s premier estate-auction specialists, Stephenson’s of suburban Bucks County, will present a 479-lot auction of antiques, decorative arts and firearms. Within the selection are more than 120 lots of fine jewelry from a physician’s estate and other sources. All forms of bidding will be available, including live via the Internet.

Jewelry has always been one of Stephenson’s top specialties, and many rare and exquisite gems and designer pieces have come to the auction marketplace from Philadelphia’s exclusive Main Line neighborhoods as a result of family-owned Stephenson’s trusted reputation in the region. The Oct. 20 auction features high-quality jewelry for both men and women.

The grouping includes a substantial men’s 18K gold ring with a 1.10-carat diamond solitaire in an eight-sided mounting. This statement piece is estimated at $1,000-$2,000. Another highlight for the stylish gentleman is a Bueche Girod 18K gold wristwatch with an 1893 US$10 gold coin serving as its face. The gold mesh case and band are solid gold, and the back of the band is hallmarked and stamped 750. This striking timepiece weighs in at a hefty 77.8 grams and is expected to sell for $3,000-$6,000. A classic men’s Rolex Oyster Perpetual stainless steel watch with original band is the perfect everyday watch and is entered with a $1,200-$2,000 estimate.

A unisex jewelry staple that never goes out of style is the classic herringbone chain necklace. Stephenson’s will offer a nicely crafted 24-inch-long chain of this type, stamped 14K and Italy. It weighs 49.43 grams and is estimated at $1,000-$2,000.

Women’s jewelry will open the sale, with a wonderful array of earrings, necklaces, bracelets, rings, pendants, brooches and watches. Many have a custom designer look, are made of high-karat gold, and contain precious or semiprecious stones.

Rich and lustrous sterling silver will cross the auction block in the form of flatware sets, a George III salver, Amston sugar bowl and creamer; and A.G. Schultz & Co. repousse center bowl, among other pieces.

Designed to please even the most particular collector of fountain pens, an Omas Legni Pegiati Precious Wood boxed set contains 15 pens from 1995-97, each with an 18K gold nib and a finish representing a type of exotic or especially beautiful wood. Samples of each kind of wood are included in the 3-tiered presentation. Numbered 183/500, this exquisite, wood-boxed set should reach a winning bid in the $6,000-$12,000.

Paintings, bronzes (Therese McAllister, John David Jagger, etc.) and other works of art cover a wide range of genres and periods. Considerable interest has already been shown in a Daniel Garber (American, 1880-1958) etching-on-paper titled The Heron. Garber was a noted New Hope colony impressionist known for his Bucks County, Pa., landscapes and Delaware River scenes. He excelled at etching. In addition to painting, Garber taught at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts for more than 40 years. The Heron measures 6½ x 7in (sight), and is estimated at $1,000-$1,600

An excellent grouping of military and historical items includes swords, edged weapons, uniforms and medals (including Nazi German); and a variety of firearms and accessories. A Springfield Armory M-1 Garand .30 caliber semi-automatic rifle, eight shot, clip feed, manufactured circa 1952, comes in a sealed plastic bag with oil/grease. It also has the original box in which it was shipped from Anniston Army Depot, Alabama, in 1984. The auction estimate is $1,500-$3,000.

Stephenson’s Oct. 20, 2017 auction will begin at 1 p.m. Eastern Time. Inspection is on Thursday, Oct. 19 from 3-7 p.m. and on auction day from 11 a.m. till the sale’s commencement.
