LONDON.- Embrace the start of the new season with beautiful accessories from the Sotheby’s Fine Jewels Sale on 20 September. Drawing on the rich golden hues and seasonal motifs of autumn, the sale offers a spectacular range of on-season jewels with an eclectic mix of pieces from the Edwardian and Art Deco periods. As well as timeless brands such a Cartier, Bulgari and Boucheron, the sale will also include notable 20th century designers such as Grima, Pol Bury and Mosheh Oved, bringing together a much sought-after array of classic and contemporary jewels.

SIGNED JEWELS

An eclectic selection of fine signed jewels offering dazzling pieces from renowned jewellery houses
Sapphire, ruby and diamond brooch Cartier, 1960s (Lot 295) Estimate £20,000–30,000
A splendid brooch modelled as a cockatoo, set with carved sapphires and brilliant-cut diamonds and accented with blue enamel, eyes set with an oval ruby and resting on a perch set with baguette diamonds, signed Cartier.

Pol Bury (Lot 147) Estimate £8,000–10,000
A bicoloured cuff of hinged design, set with spheres to the interior and exterior, signed Pol Bury Accompanied by the book Pol Bury by Dore Ashton, published in 1970 by Maeght Editeur, Paris.

Citrine and diamond bracelet Cartier, 1940s (Lot 182) Estimate £20,000–30,000
Designed as a flowering vine, the flowers are set with variously-cut citrines, the leaves set with single- and circular-cut diamonds, and highlighted throughout with additional collet-set circular-cut diamonds.

Each of the floral cluster designs is set with pear-shaped citrines and single and circular-cut diamonds.

GRIMA
Adventurous and innovative in style, Andrew Grima’s unique and eye-catching designs have won him prestigious commissions and numerous international awards. Grima’s international profile had grown throughout the 1960s and in 1969 he was commissioned by Omega to create a collection of watches to be exhibited around the world. The resulting collection titled ‘About Time’ was launched in London in 1970 and consisted of 85 striking watches set with a gemstone.

This Opal and Diamond Watch Pendant (estimate £7,000–9,000) (Lot 137) exemplifies Grima’s bold and visionary approach. A manual winding watch it has a plain dial and tapered hands behind a pear-shaped opal cabochon, surrounded by collet-set triangular brilliantcut diamond.

Designed as a bramble branch, the flowers on this brooch are decorated with single-cut diamond petals with carved nephrite leaves and carved berries in chrysophase, cornelian and onyx.

Diamond brooch (Lot 153) Estimate £1,600–2,400
A brooch designed as a ladder interwoven with an ivy branch, the leaves set with single-cut diamonds, signed Cazzaniga.

Brooch, Buccellati (Lot 180) Estimate £2,400–3,800
A brooch modelled as three acorns and oak leaves, signed Buccellati.

Gold brooch Cartier, 1955 (Lot 178) Estimate £5,000–6,000
A brooch designed as a rose with matte petals, signed Cartier. Accompanied by a letter from Cartier, dated 1957.

This exquisite ring is set with a step-cut cushion-shaped Burmese ruby and calibré-cut ruby corner accents.
