SYDNEY.- The Art Gallery of New South Wales announced Aqualand Australia is supporting the acquisition of a painting by Aboriginal artist, Tiger Yaltangki, from the current exhibition The National 2017: new Australian art. This is in addition to Aqualand’s six-year sponsorship of The National: new Australian art across its three iterations in 2017, 2019 and 2021.

Yaltangki’s painting Star Wars 2016 is a captivating example of his combination of Anangu culture with popular culture. Yaltangki grew up in Indulkana, South Australia and has painted for many years, offering a unique vision of contemporary life and exploring the diverse influences that shape his world view with curiosity and humour.

Deputy director of the Art Gallery of NSW, Maud Page said the Gallery is grateful to Aqualand for funding the acquisition.

“What is wonderful about Aqualand getting involved in an exhibition such as The National is that they are supporting the cultural fabric of this country,” Page said.

“By partnering with Aqualand the Gallery has been able to support Australian artists in the development and exhibition of new work. It is a delight to have that extend to the acquisition of such an extraordinary work by Tiger Yaltangki for the Gallery’s collection,” Page added.

As presenting partner of this exhibition at the Art Gallery of NSW, Aqualand is funding a collaborative project that celebrates the latest ideas and forms in contemporary Australian art in conjunction with Carriageworks and the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA).

Mr Jin Lin, Managing Director, Aqualand Australia, said, “We are proud supporters of the Art Gallery of NSW and enjoy the opportunity to enrich the Gallery’s collection and its exhibitions.”

“Supporting local talent and the continued development of the Australian art scene is something we’re passionate about at Aqualand and we are proud to be presenting partner of The National: new Australian art,” Lin added.
