NEW YORK, NY.- The top lot of the sale was Francisco Zúñiga (1912-1998), Grupo de cuatro mujeres de pie from The Tuttleman Collection, which sold for $3,127,500, more than doubling its low estimate.

Strong results were achieved for private collections including The Tuttleman Collection, which totaled $5,898,000, with all but one lot sold. Exceptional prices were realized for works by Claudio Bravo (1936-2011), with all works offered sold, totaling $1,420,000, and Fernando Botero (B. 1932), with all but one lot offered sold totaling $6,215,500.

Notable results included Fernando Botero (b. 1932), Woman with an Umbrella and Man with a Cane, which realized $1,807,500 and Carmen Herrera (B. 1915), Verticals, which realized $751,500, more than doubling its low estimate.

FIVE WORLD AUCTION RECORDS:
There were five world auction records set for artists including Nicolás García Uriburu, Manuel Mendive (b. 1944), Severo Rodríguez Etchart (1864-1903), Jorge Jiménez Deredia (b. 1954), and René Portocarrero (1912-1985), for the medium.

The online auction continues through May 31.

Virgilio Garza, Head of Latin American Art, comments: “The sale featured exceptional works from private collections as seen with The Tuttleman Collection, which totaled nearly $6 million, led by two outdoor sculptures, Zúñiga’s Grupo de cuatro mujeres de pie, which more than doubled its low estimate selling for $3.1 million, and Botero’s Woman with Umbrella and Man with Cane, selling for $1.8 million. Strong prices were realized for contemporary artists, notably Carmen Herrera, with Verticals doubling its estimate, and all works offered by Claudio Bravo selling at the high-end if not above their estimate. New records were set across the category from 19th-century painters, to sculpture, and contemporary installations, showing the appetite for Latin American art across all periods and medium.”
