MIAMI, FLA.- SmithDavidson Gallery announces the opening of a new gallery in the city of Miami in addition to the Amsterdam location. For more than four decades, SmithDavidson has been presenting the work of significant artists in the Netherlands and at such prestigious international art fairs as TEFAF Maastricht, Art Miami, and Zona Maco Mexico City. Enjoying an esteemed international reputation, the gallery is now bringing its unique collection of modern and contemporary artwork, photography, and Aboriginal Australian paintings to Miami.

SmithDavidson Gallery is excited to become a part of the wider Miami art community and within the vibrant and developing Ironside area of the Upper East Side. Miami has become a destination to experience artwork and is now at the forefront of the world’s evolving arts scene with a lively collecting audience. For over a decade, SmithDavidson Gallery has annually exhibited at the prestigious Art Miami and they now look forward to permanently bringing their unique collection and roster of artists to the region and contributing to the international city’s cultural offerings. The new 4,000 square feet location includes exhibition space, an office, a private viewing room, and onsite storage within the unique environment of Ironside with its creative businesses set among courtyards.

SmithDavidson Gallery has been presenting fine art in the Netherlands since 1969. Originally named Leslie Smith Gallery after the American owner, it specialized and became the preeminent source for 19th century Dutch painting during the 1970s and 1980s. The gallery also had a location on Worth Avenue in Palm Beach, Florida during the 1980s leading to a familiarity with the region. Once David Smith assumed control from his father in 1990, the gallery has evolved to focus more on modern and contemporary artwork in a variety of mediums. The gallery has also become known for its collection of the most renowned Aboriginal Australian painting, and locally the Perez Art Museum Miami recently featured gallery artists in its exhibition, “No Boundaries.” SmithDavidson Gallery now enjoys an esteemed international reputation and clientele and exhibits at such prominent art fairs as TEFAF in Maastricht and Zona Maco in Mexico City as well as Art Miami.

The inaugural exhibition at SmithDavidson Gallery Miami is a group show featuring a broad overview of the collection hailing from a variety of periods, mediums, and themes. This first exhibition includes work by modern and contemporary masters such as Carlos Cruz-Diez, Alexander Calder, Os Gemeos, and Banksy. Contemporary artists who are innovating today's practices such as Paul Rousso and Zhuang Hong Yi also are on display. Photography is represented by the renowned work of Marc Lagrange who focuses on the female form and Terry O’Neill’s portraiture of iconic personalities. Examples of painting by leading Aboriginal Australian artists such as Warlimpirrnga Tjapaltjarri are being shown as well. Future shows will include both solo and thematic group exhibitions.
