INDIANAPOLIS, IN.- Dr. Charles L. Venable, The Melvin & Bren Simon Director and CEO of the
Indianapolis Museum of Art, announced today that Jeremy G. Shubrook has been named the Museums director of festivals, performance and public programs.
This new position grew out of an expanded vision for the IMAs former curator of audience experiences and performance role. Shubrook will guide the IMAs efforts to engage diverse audiences through experiences such as The National Bank of Indianapolis Summer Nights Film Series, annual Solstice celebrations in the Virginia B. Fairbanks Art & Nature Park: 100 Acres and other programs from the inventive ARTx Series. IMA's ARTx Series is made possible by a gift from The Efroymson Family Fund.
Jeremy Shubrook will bring a wealth of talent, knowledge and creativity to the IMA team, said Venable. He has over 10 years of experience in arts organizations in roles that combine artistic programming and production.
Prior to joining the IMA, Shubrook was the director of production at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts in Miami, Floridathe largest performing arts complex in the Southeastwhich presents a diverse array of over 500 events each year in its eight state-of-the-art performance spaces. Shubrooks experience also includes managing the Performing Arts, Music and Film series at the Cleveland Museum of Art, where he led collaborative efforts to include a wide variety of international programming in the museum. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Texas in Austin.
Im eager to get to work with my IMA colleagues, said Shubrook. We have an opportunity to amplify the already unique and inclusive palette of programs at this one-of-a-kind organization. In many ways the IMA is on the forefront as it works to broaden its public reach while enhancing its earned and donated revenue. Not only will we continue interactive, guest-centered experiences like artist-designed Mini Golf that drew almost 30,000 participants this past summer, but we will work more aggressively to redefine public programs as integrated experiences that incorporate art, nature and food in highly social ways.
The IMA has one of the best facilities in the world for supporting programs that will excite and engage a broad public, said Venable. With spacious galleries, three theaters and 152-acres of gardens and parkland on the main campus, we are ready to take some of the experiments we have been doing over the past few years to scale.
Few other art-and-nature-based organizations in the country can produce programs that range from intimate performances for small, targeted audiences to large-scale festivals designed to attract thousands of visitors each season, Venable continued. For example, this year we are planning a Spring Blooms: Celebration of Color festival that will feature 250,000 blooming flowers around our campus in concert with our main art exhibition Audubon: Drawn to Nature. The year will conclude with an amazingly-designed light installation in our Gardens for holiday 2017. Jeremy Shubrooks creativity, leadership and production ability will be integral to the success of such endeavors going forward.
