Escalating prices on Yu Youren calligraphy to continue with December offerings at Clars
This pair of huanghuali horseshoe armchairs are expected to achieve $35,000 - $55,000.



OAKLAND, CA.- Clars Auction Gallery’s December 10 and 11, 2016 will be highlighted by extraordinary offerings in Asian Art, Jewelry and Decorative Art plus impressive offerings in Fine Art from France and Russia.

THE ASIAN ART AND ANTIQUES
Over the past 3 months, Clars has offered 10 works by contemporary calligraphy master, Yu Youren (Chinese, 1879-1964). Each offering of his works have seen the prices realized skyrocket well beyond high estimate, earning over $215,000 in total to date. Clars is honored to once again offer four (4) of Youren’s works in the December sale, all with provenance from the estate of a prominent Republic period official.

To be offered in the December sale will be Youren’s calligraphy titled “Wo yu tian shan,” an ink on paper dedicated to his son Yu Youren. This work comes to the sale with an estimate of $15,000 - $25,000. Next, carrying the same estimate and dedicated to his son Yu Wangde will be his ink on paper poem titled “'You Jintang Yunding Shan Yu You,” (Raining when travelling in Jintang Yunding Mountain). Also dedicated to Yu Wangde will be his calligraphy, ink on paper poem titled, “Du Yingmen song bie' by Tang dynasty poet Li Bai,” which is estimated at $7,000 - $10,000 as well as his ink on paper featuring three verses from “Su Shi's 'Yufu si shou.”

Coming from another esteemed calligrapher, Pu Ru (Chinese, 1896-1963), will be the calligraphy handscroll titled “Jiaoliao Ban” that is expected to achieve $5,000 - $7,000.

Also bringing excitement to the sale will be an exceptional selection of highly desirable Chinese huanghuali furniture acquired from the estate of Dr. Edward Gerber. The first offering will be a rounded corner cabinet that is estimated to sell for $30,000 - $50,000. Following will be two pair of huanghuali horseshoe armchairs and tea stand each is expected to achieve $35,000 - $55,000.

Rounding out the fine Asian offerings will be a selection of Himalayan bronze Buddhist sculptures, cloisonné items and various Chinese ceramics and decorative items.

THE DECORATIVE ARTS AND FURNISHINGS
The finest craftsmanship and design from France will highlight this category’s offerings. Topping the list will be an amazing French animated locomotive industrial clock which is expected to achieve $15,000 - $25,000.

And, once gracing the fabulous dining room aboard Thomas Perkins’ mega yacht, the Maltese Falcon, will be a Baccarat stemware service in the sleek and sophisticated Vega pattern. The service is comprised of 82 stems and will be offered in multiple lots. The combined estimated of this offering if $5,000 - $8,000. (Provenance: Estate of Thomas J. Perkins)

THE JEWELRY AND TIMEPIECES
The jewelry offerings coming to the December sale are extravagant highlighted by an array of offerings dripping in diamonds. Expected to be the top seller is an Art Deco diamond and platinum bracelet sporting a total diamond weight of approximately 22.00 cts. This piece will be offered for $35,000 - $50,000. Also in Art Deco design will be a diamond, sapphire and platinum bracelet with diamond weight approximately 10 cts. This will be offered for $6,000 - $9,000.

An unusual Verdura Spinel diamond bracelet features a total spinel weight of approximately 225.00 cts and is expected to achieve $30,000 - $50,000. To be offered for $17,000 - $20,000, will be a pendant featuring a round brilliant-cut 3 ct diamond. Three stunning diamond rings, all set in 18K gold, will be offered. The first features a 6.30 ct round brilliant-cut diamond (estimate: $14,000 - $16,000); the second features a 7.90 cts radiant-cut diamond (estimate: $10,000 - $15,000) and the third features a round brilliant-cut diamond weighing approximately 6.75 cts (estimate: $6,000 - $9,000).

In emerald and diamonds, a perfect combination for the holidays, will be an 18k gold ring featuring a 2.54 cts emerald surrounded by diamonds (estimate; $8,000 - $12,000). And rounding out the beautiful offerings in this category will be a large collection of antique and vintage stickpins and highlight collectible Swatch watches.

THE FINE ART
French paintings will be among the many highlights with two beautiful oils on canvas by Marcel Dyf (French, 1899-1985). One is a rare painting that depicts the 9th Hole (Par 3) at Chiberta Golf Club in Southern France titled, The Golf (catalogue raisonné ref no. 5062), which will be offered for $7,000-$10,000. This is a must have for lovers of the sport. Always a favorite, Eugene Galien-Laloue’s (French, 1854-1941) gouache titled, La Bataille de la Marne (1914), estimated at $4,000-6,000, is a dramatic but meticulously executed scene from World War I. Lastly, a delicate and dark oil on panel titled, Portrait of a Lady, by Jean Jacques Henner (French, 1829-1905) will be also be offered at $4,000-$6,000.

A variety of Russian art will also be featured. Estimated at $6,000-9,000, a robust, Impressionist oil on canvas, Still Life with Flowers, by Georgiy Alexandrovich Lapchine (Russian, 1885-1950) will surely lead this category followed by lovely landscape by Vasili Aleksandrovich Kotarbinsky (Russian, 1849-1921) titled, Nude Sunbathing by a Lake, that will be offered at $10,000-15,000. These are just a few of the many spectacular fine paintings, prints and sculpture that will be offered at the sale.
