ZURICH.- Manifesta 11 can be seen and experienced in Zurich for one more month. A visit to the Artists Guild at Cabaret Voltaire is especially recommended. As of August, it is also open to non-Guild members and important performance art representatives are taking part, as well as artists from all over the world with collaborative partners in other professions. On Wednesday evening, the Mayor of Zurich, Corine Mauch, was on stage in a joint-venture partnership with Ticino-based artist Stefan Bütschi.
The Cabaret der Künstler Zunfthaus Voltaire is an experimental performance space. So far, over 340 artists from 30 countries have performed on the stage specially created for Manifesta 11 in the historic birthplace of Dada. Major representatives from performance art, such as Ulay (known for his body-related performances with artist Marina Abramović), the Austrian artist group Gelitin, the Canadian electroclash singer and music producer Peaches, and the former lead singer of Sonic Youth Kim Gordon, have performed here. Among the highlights were Kunstraum 1857 from Oslo, who, with the artist Peter Ballo, created an experimental bar sculpture that served drinks all evening. Or pcnc_bay with Lia Satzinger, who turned the activities of eating and drinking into a social-participatory performance. Also Dan Bodan and Ofelia Jarl Ortegas music performances, as well as Nils Amadeus Langes and Annina Machazs joint act.
Over 100,000 visits to date suggests a major success for Manifesta in its over-20-year history.
Hedwig Fijen, Manifesta director: The 11th edition of Manifesta also initiates dialogue among its visitors and those looking for the most diverse approaches to art, art that thinks about an increasingly destabilized world.
Manifesta 11 has welcomed over 100,000 visits and 8,000 participants to its education program to date. We hope that many more, particularly young people, will find their way to us and help give shape to the exchange between cultures, generations, religions and genders. To this end, we have done some more deep thinking and further optimized what we have to offer.
