A+D Architecture + Design Museum appoints Dora Epstein Jones as new Executive Director
Epstein Jones comes to A+D with considerable experience as an arts and education administrator at SCI-Arc, where she served as Coordinator of History and Theory, and then Coordinator of General Studies, for fifteen years.

LOS ANGELES, CA.- The A+D Architecture + Design Museum > Los Angeles, located in the Downtown Los Angeles (DTLA) Arts District, announced today the appointment of its new Executive Director, Dora Epstein Jones. Epstein Jones joins the museum as A+D continues to grow as an important hub for design in Los Angeles and worldwide. With her comprehensive knowledge and institutional experience, Epstein Jones will be focused on spearheading the museum in its vision to be locally focused and globally relevant.

“As only the second executive director in the museum’s 15-year history, Dora joins A+D at a crucial time,” said Eric Stultz, A+D board president and Gensler design principal. “Her intelligence, and passion for all things design, and enthusiasm for A+D have already had an impact. The Board is thrilled to have Dora on our team, and will rely on her positive influence as we make pivotal decisions. We have no doubt that she is the ideal individual to lead the museum into this next phase of exploration and growth.”

Epstein Jones comes to A+D with considerable experience as an arts and education administrator at SCI-Arc, where she served as Coordinator of History and Theory, and then Coordinator of General Studies, for fifteen years. Epstein Jones holds a Ph.D. in Architectural History, Theory and Criticism, and an M.A. in Urban Planning, from UCLA. Epstein Jones is the author and editor of many books and articles, including Log 31: New Ancients, Mechudzu: New Rhetorics for Architecture, Two Installations: Zago/Office dA; and articles in Arch’It; ArcCA; and Princeton University Press’ forthcoming, The Building. A former longtime collaborator with Jones, Partners: Architecture, Epstein Jones is known widely for an unselfish support of architects and designers, with written works, invited lectures, symposia and a number of gallery exhibitions devoted to the public display of architecture and design across a spectrum of concerns, from aesthetic to social. Epstein Jones is a fellow of the American Council of Learned Societies and the AIA American Architectural Foundation, and sits on the Advisory Board for the Getty Research Institute Architecture Archive.

“The brackets that define architecture and design in the 21st century are shifting dramatically, and at an unprecedented pace. This means that the role of the museum is that much more critical,” said Epstein Jones. “With its move to Downtown Los Angeles Arts District in 2015, and an anticipated collaboration with the AIA Los Angeles to help create The Center, this is a pivotal time for the museum and I am honored to be entrusted with this opportunity.”
