TAMPA, FLA.- The work of pop art icon Peter Max was unveiled in downtown Tampa with an exhibition that reflects 50 years of Max’s psychedelic daydreaming.

Peter Max: 50 Years of Cosmic Dreaming celebrates this 20th century pop culture icon with 90 works spanning fifty years. Max’s use of bold colors and uplifting images has captured and inspired the imaginations of the public from the early 1960s through the 2010s. This exhibition is on view June 10 through September 11, 2016.

Peter Max is a legendary, multi-dimensional artist whose signature vibrant colors are admired world-wide. With paintings on exhibition in hundreds of museums and galleries worldwide and his long-standing career as the preeminent pop artist in America, Max has been successively called a Pop Icon, Neo-Fauvist, Abstract Expressionist, and the United States' "Painter Laureate."

Born in Berlin, Max’s family moved to Shanghai, China, then to Israel eventually relocating to the United States. His love of astronomy, sages and the spiritual life, Max is an icon of counter culture in the 60s. He emerged in the art world alongside artists such as Andy Warhol, Rauschenberg, and Pollack. His work is associated with POP art, neo-fauvism, and abstract expressionism. His world-renowned portraits of cultural icons include figures such as The Dalai Lama, Mick Jagger, Paul McCartney, Taylor Swift and Nelson Mandela.

As has been his tradition throughout his long career, Peter Max seeks to capture themes of America at its finest, in his art. His highly recognizable artwork has appeared on many oversized canvases from a Boeing 777 jumbo jet to a 600-foot stage for the Woodstock Music Festival to the hull of Norwegian Cruise Lines newest ship, ‘The Breakaway.’ Max has had the honor to serve as official artist for five Super Bowls, six Grammy Awards, World Cup USA, The World Series, the United Nations Earth Summit, and numerous other significant events.
