NEW YORK, NY.- Christie’s announces that Alex Rotter has been appointed Chairman of Post War and Contemporary Art, Christies Americas. Having forged a 16-year long career as a key figure in the contemporary art world, Rotter will have a senior executive role in the Post-War and Contemporary team working on consignments and sales at the highest levels. Rotter is recognized as a leading authority in the contemporary art world with significant international experience of working with collectors, estates and artists. He will take up his appointment in early 2017.

In his new position Rotter will work closely with Brett Gorvy, Chairman, International Head of Post War and Contemporary Art, and the international Post-War and Contemporary team at Christie’s. From 2008-2016 Rotter was Worldwide Co-Head of Contemporary Art at Sotheby’s (2008-2016), where he spent 16 years of his career. At Sotheby’s he started as a junior member of the department and began a steady ascent to the top of the company. Rotter oversaw the rise in global contemporary sales at Sotheby's and led the launch of S2, the auction house's gallery space and hub for private sales in 2011. Rotter was educated at University of Vienna and grew up in a family of art dealers in Austria.
