NEW YORK, NY.- Dominique Lévy announced that, in January 2017, the gallery will expand to occupy the full premises at 909 Madison Avenue, the historic landmark building where it has presented critically acclaimed exhibitions on the two upper levels since its opening in September 2013. Galerie Perrotin, which has shared the building on Madison Avenue, will move to a new location in early 2017. With its expansion, Dominique Lévy will significantly increase its exhibition space through the addition of the ground floor, while growing its private viewing rooms and research facilities on the lower level.
In the three years since Dominique Lévys celebrated inaugural exhibition Audible Presence: Lucio Fontana, Yves Klein, Cy Twombly, the gallery has presented twenty- eight exhibitions, published twenty catalogues and artist monographs, launched a space in London on Old Bond Street, and inaugurated a project series called The Back Room. With its upcoming expansion, the gallery will continue its internationally acclaimed program of solo exhibitions by gallery artists, innovative pairings in two-artist exhibitions, and curated group exhibitions.
Dominique Lévys first exhibition in the expanded facility, opening in January 2017, will pair Willem de Kooning and Zao Wou-Ki for the first time with a selection of over twenty paintings spanning the late 1940s through the early 1980s. In June 2017, Dominique Lévy will present a solo exhibition of new and historical work by gallery artist Pat Steir.
Dominique Lévy has commissioned Bill Katz to redesign the buildings ground floor in order to enhance presentation of both intimate and large-scale projects. Katz has previously designed studio and exhibition spaces for artists such as Anselm Kiefer, Cy Twombly, and Jasper Johns.
