CHICAGO, IL.- Don’t miss this final opportunity to experience Transcending Boundaries: The Art of Anthony Quinn at the National Hellenic Museum.

The exhibition of more than 80 paintings and sculptures from Quinn’s private collection, which runs through May 29, offers a glimpse into the artistic genius of the Irish Mexican immigrant who brought to life the beloved and irrepressible Zorba the Greek.

Quinn was more than just an actor; he was a talented painter, sculpture and jewelry designer who found solace and refuge in the creative process.

“Art is my ethnicity,” said Quinn, who transcended ethnic and cultural boundaries throughout his career.

As you walk through the exhibition, you see reflections of Anthony Quinn’s life experiences, traces of his proud Mexican heritage, his love of cultures throughout the world, and the impact of his long friendship with the Greek people.

Quinn’s artistic passion and his determination to overcome great challenges lives on through his art and through the work of the Anthony Quinn Foundation, founded by Katherine Quinn after her husband’s death in 2001.

Fueled by Quinn’s belief that art, music and dance are essential to learning and the enrichment of the mind, the foundation has helped send dozens of high school students to art, dance and music programs they wouldn't be able to experience without a scholarship.

“The talent that comes in is unbelievable, they’re painters, dancers, musicians, writers, media artists and they come from all over,” said Katherine Quinn, who will visit the National Hellenic Museum on May 26 to discuss the mission of the foundation and introduce several of the young scholarship recipients.

She says she often invites school groups to visit her husband’s studio and private gallery at their home in Rhode Island, where she shares the story of Quinn’s struggles, as well as his success, and allows the students to explore the studio, handle the sculptures, pick up the woodcarvings, and feel the bristles of the paintbrushes.



“On a personal level, to see how people respond, to know that his art touches people, it makes the whole thing worthwhile,” she said. “To know that his life and his art can inspire someone to do something on their own, that would have put a smile on his face.”
