Museum of Sex To Feature Get Off! in March

NEW YORK.- Get Off! is the Museum of Sex’s first contemporary art show featuring work by emerging and established artists who investigate sexual titillation as a means to examine their relationship to pleasure in society.  Curated by Robin Kahn, Get Off! will feature work by contemporary artists who investigate sexual play as a means to examine society’s relationship to permissible and taboo pleasures. Inspired by discreetly private acts that occur away from a public audience, these artists create work that turns the private public. They explore various facets of sexual stimulation ranging from masturbation, stripping, costuming to titillation via trespassing and voyeurism. Some artists use their own bodies while others solicit sexual inspiration from third parties. Media ranges from site-specific installations to drawings, sculpture, photo, video and performance. The show is a provocative view by artists of their relationship to the realm of contemporary sex. It underscores a positive and humorous view of intimacy today. Artists include asianpunkboy, AA Bronson, Greg Curry, Jane Dickson, Lisa Dilillo, Joseph Maida, Laurel Nakadate, Tom Otterness, Mabi Revuelta, Michael Schmelling & Matthew Salacuse, and Nancy Spero.

MUSEUM OF SEX - The mission of the Museum of Sex is to present and preserve the history and cultural significance of human sexuality. The first museum of its kind in North America, it is committed to open discourse and exchange, and to bringing to the public the best in current scholarship. The Museum opened its doors October 2002 with its award-winning inaugural exhibition NYCSex: How
New York City Transformed Sex in America. NYCSex featured artifacts from private lenders and public institutions including the New York Historical Society, Municipal Archives and the Kinsey Institute, as well as the participation of world-renowned scholars and a creative design team. In May 2003, the Museum received the Muse Award for Creative Excellence for its audioguide.
