Billings Auction announces highlights from its Modern Art and Design Sale
This Winter auction event follows the success of BILLINGS' inaugural design auction, held in September 2015.

LOS ANGELES, CA.- Billings Auction announced today, that its Winter modern art and design auction will take place on Saturday, December 12, 2015, from 12pm to 8pm at its Bay Street headquarters in Downtown Los Angeles. The auction will be preceded, for the first time, by an evening preview and reception on December 11, 2015, from 6pm-9pm.

This Winter auction event follows the success of BILLINGS' inaugural design auction, held in September 2015. With over 80% of its lots sold, the event was well attended by new and established collectors, design enthusiasts, leading dealers and members of the art community. The upcoming December BILLINGS' auction comes just in time for holiday gifting and New Year's design resolutions and refreshes.

Featuring over 300 lots, with estimates ranging from $100 to $5,000, highlights from the upcoming auction include a historically significant, signed, 60" x 60" geometric Op Art painting, Farfalla III, by Craig Ellwood (1922-1992), executed in 1982 while the artist was living and painting in Italy, estimated at $2,000-$3,000; a whimsical Garden Chair by Norwegian furniture-designer, artist and jazz-saxophonist Peter Opsvik (1939-), created for Stokke, from1985, estimated at $4,000-$5,000; part of the designer's Globe Concept collection, the impressive chair is visually striking and ergonomically designed. Also featured are Bouloum lounge chairs designed by Olivier Mourgue (1939-) for Airborne, 1971, estimated at $300-$500; an Italian leather Joe chair designed by Jonathan de Pas (1936-) for Stendig,1970, estimated at $3,000-$4,000, and a largeformat 13' x 16' custom, room-sized rug by Edward Fields, estimated at $1,200-$1,500.

With an emphasis on modern and vintage design pieces, art, and rare objects, BILLINGS selectively curates its offerings, and provides a unique interactive environment to welcome both the discerning collector and novice alike. Co-founded by co-owners of The Window, Lorca Cohen and Greg Wooten, Joshua Kritzer of Rewire Gallery and LA dealer Rich Carmichael, BILLINGS strives to provide Los Angeles with exceptional, and hard to find, collector-worthy pieces at accessible price points.

The auction event on December 12, from 12pm to 8pm, is free and open to the public. Those unable to attend the auction are encouraged to bid online by registering with BILLINGS Auction through their LiveAuctioneers account. Once registered, participants can watch the auction live, online from anywhere, and bid on their favorite lots remotely through their computer, tablet or phone. The option to place absentee bids via LiveAuctioneers is also available.
