LONDON, ENGLAND.- As part of the continuing celebrations of the National Art Collections Fund’s centenary, the Wallace Collection is delighted to be hosting this splendid exhibition of works of art from the National Gallery of Scotland in Edinburgh. Comprising forty paintings, prints and drawings by a wide range of artists, it demonstrates the wonderful works of art that the National Gallery of Scotland has acquired with the Art Fund’s help, as well as giving visitors the opportunity to see some art very different from that normally on display at the Wallace Collection.
Among the works on display will be Old Master paintings ranging from Renaissance Italy to Golden Age Denmark. At the core of the exhibition will be a superb group of English drawings and watercolours by Turner, Blake, Girtin, Constable, Cotman and Rowlandson. There will also be Old Master drawings, among them Raphael’s exquisite chalk drawing; Kneeling Nude Woman with her Left Arm Raised, Poussin’s preparatory drawing for his great painting in the Wallace Collection, The Dance to the Music of Time and the delightful portrait of Mlle Hayard by Ingres Other works in the show include Rembrandt’s celebrated etching Ecce Homo and a fine group of Scottish paintings by Alexander Nasmyth, Joseph Craw hall (his celebrated White Drake), George Henry and David Gauld.
The exhibition is currently on display at the National Gallery of Scotland, finishing on 21st December 2003, under the title Many Happy Returns: The National Gallery of Scotland Celebrates 100 years of the Art Fund. To date, it has enjoyed enormous success, and provided visitors an opportunity to view important prints and drawings which are not on permanent display for conservation reasons.
Rosalind Savill, Director of the Wallace Collection, said: ’We are thrilled to be able to host at the Wallace Collection this marvelous exhibition, and to play our part not only in helping to celebrate the achievements of the Art Fund but also in helping make the wonderful collections of the National Gallery of Scotland better known to audiences outside Scotland".
