HONG KONG.- Sotheby’s Hong Kong announced two important singleowner sales, The Classic Cellar from a Prestigious Collection and The Contemporary Cellar from Impeccable Storage at Octavian to take place on 3 October at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. More than 1,400 lots will be offered, estimated in excess of HK$36 million / US$4.6 million*. The two sales are notable for the contrasting styles of each Cellar: the Classic Cellar is centred around the greatest wines made over the last twenty years from Bordeaux plus an impressive collection of DRC wines, while the Contemporary Cellar offers incredible diversity from Burgundy’s finest Domaines complemented by a variety of formats and a rare releases from Champagne’s finest houses.

The Classic Cellar from a Prestigious Collection
Day Sale: 10am, 3 October 2015

The sale features 998 lots estimated at HK$25 – 34 million / US$3.2 – 4.3 million. The wines in this collection boast impeccable provenance, having been bought on release and stored under ideal conditions, which is reflected in the wines’ excellent appearance and condition. The sale begins with more than 100 lots from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC) from 1997 to 2011 in multiple formats as well as wines from other top Burgundy Domaines such as Armand Rousseau and Méo Camuzet. The core of this cellar, however, comes from 800-plus lots of the greatest Bordeaux from the last twenty years, more than half of them from First Growth Châteaux including nearly 200 lots of Château Lafite and over 100 lots of Château Margaux. With many wines available in multiple formats and parcel quantities, the sale offers an exceptional opportunity for discerning Asian collectors looking to form a serious cellar of investment-grade wines.

Serena Sutcliffe, Master of Wine (MW), said, “This stunning collection is a tempting treasure trove full of allure and promise, wickedly appealing to all palates. The Bordeaux list is studded with First Growths, closely followed by Super Seconds, Fabulous Fifths and a liberal sprinkling of luscious Right Bank wines. Burgundy is brilliantly represented in this collection, with DRC to the fore. What more could one ask for?”

The Contemporary Cellar from Impeccable Storage at Octavian
Evening Sale: 6pm, 3 October 2015

Offering over 400 lots totalling HK$11 – 16 million / US$1.4 – 2 million, this single-owner evening sale will delight discerning wine collectors with hard-to-find gems. The sale is anchored by more than 1,700 bottles from the best and most popular Domaines in Burgundy in multiple formats, highlighted by 200-plus lots from DRC, Rousseau, Leroy, Cathiard, Dujac and de Vogüé for the reds and Coche-Dury, Leflaive and Lafon for the whites. Another highlight of this remarkable cellar is a collection of 600 bottles of Champagne from the most revered producers including Dom Pérignon, Krug, Louis Roederer and Jacques Selosse. In addition are wines from the iconic Vega Sicilia in seldom-seen historic vintages, led by a rare 25-magnum vertical of Vega Sicilia Unico from 1960 to 2000.

The provenance of this collection is exemplary. Wherever possible, these wines have been purchased from the official UK agent and the vast majority of these wines have been stored at Octavian in the UK since their release.

“This is a truly stimulating, knowledgeably eclectic collection, gathered by a connoisseur who loved and appreciated the noble regions of France, but who also stepped out, at an early stage, and saw what stunning wines could be produced in Spain and Italy. It is the sheer desirability of these wines that impresses. This is a massed array of Grands Crus, both red and white, from the producers that we most revere,” said Serena Sutcliffe, Master of Wine (MW).
