COPENHAGEN.- Copenhagen reveals its artistic side in August when galleries, art fairs, museums and exhibition spaces join forces for a packed programme of special art events during
Cph Art Week 2015.
An art lounge on the quay, perfume made from harbour water, art in the Metro, smartphone-art, performances, symposia, and a philosophical brunch these are just some of the highlights when Cph Art Week rolls out the red carpet at the end of August. The week brings together over 50 of the countrys most prominent art institutions from well-known museums and galleries to smaller art spaces and exhibition halls all hosting a dazzling array of events, both large and small over ten days.
Under the theme of Shared Space, this years Cph Art Week is a tribute to art in all its magnificent variety and the spaces we all share. The week has something for everyone, outside and inside, in the Metro, on bikes and boats even via secret wireless networks.
Art for the party animals
This years programme offers loads of late night-art. On the opening night on August 21st, the popular Friday bar "SMK Friday" moves down to the harbour front at the Royal Cast Collection for an evening of music, talks, street food and a new fitness-performance amongst the plaster sculptures by Danish artist Lea Guldditte. The CHART ART FAIR, which presents the pick of the best galleries in the Nordic region, opens at Kunsthal Charlottenborg on the same night with a Grand Opening Concert. The week ends on a High Note, when five contemporary art centres join forces in presenting the joint exhibition TRUST, opening with a step-by-step vernissage, a bunch of performances and an afterparty.
A view behind the façade
On August 27th, theres ample opportunity to enjoy the citys lesser-known art spaces and meet the artists with heaps of performances, talks, curator reflections, a philosophical brunch and a mini-symposium about alternative art initiatives. On the same day, the Danish art cooperative Haandholdt will be talking about art for smartphones and tablets.
