An archaeological team from the Direction des Monuments et Sites of Brussels has confirmed the finding of remains from the roman epoch during construction works for a building.

The work had been taking place in the enclosure of Tour & Taxis of Brussels, which is usually used for cultural events, such as the construction of a new administrative building for the Flanders región, added the Belgian agency.

One of the workers found a bone of great size and informed the construction company and the authorities of Brussels of this finding, after which they began excavation works 6 meters deep.

In the course of the archaeological investigation, a watering place of sorts for animals has been discovered. It is believed to date back to the second century AC or the first half of the third century AC.

“We have a small wooden fence and pieces of floor tiles, stones and ceramics”, explained Sylvianne Modrie, who is responsable for the investigation and believes that because it seems like a watering place, the grounds could have been a farm.

The objects will be restored and analyzed by the Brussels Region and the space will be written into the archaeological atlas of the city to avoid more construction works.

Up to this momento, only single isolated discoveries have been made from this period in this particular región; discoveries such as: coins, construction materials, ceramics and other agricultural elements.
