OAK PARK, IL.- The John Toomey Gallery announced that its June auction will feature selected property from The Warshawsky Collection. A portion of the collection, compiled by Roy and Sarita Warshawsky, of Chicago automotive fame, reached world record prices at Sotheby’s New York in May; additional items from the collection will be sold by Treadway Toomey Auctions on June 6th. Roy Warshawsky, of The Everything Automotive Warshawsky Auto Parts Store and the J.C. Whitney automotive parts catalog, was an avid collector with a special interest in Tiffany and antique automobiles.

The sale of the collection will begin with a rare René Lalique hair comb in horn, silver, gold and sapphire glass with Sea Holly decoration, which dates to1900 and has an estimate of $20,000-30,000. Included in the sale will be many works by Louis Comfort Tiffany in glass and bronze, Arts & Crafts pottery, Art Nouveau furniture, glass and metalwork by iconic makers such as Emile Gallé, Daum and Gorham Martelé. Chicago metalwork including The Kalo Shop and Jarvie, classic English antiques, and Currier & Ives Chicago fire lithographs.

The Warshawksy Collection will be presented as part of the wider June 6th Treadway Toomey Gallery 20th Century Art & Design auction, which boasts a selection of more than 900 lots of prominent fine and decorative artworks including furniture, paintings, pottery, sculpture and lighting. Other highlights of the auction include furniture by Prairie School architect Frank Lloyd Wright, exceptional works by African-American artists Howard Oubre, Beauford Delaney and Charles Ethan Porter, fine art by M. C. Escher, Achipenko and Durer, as well as modern design by Nakashima, Wormley and Noguchi.

Preview exhibition for this auction is open to the public and will be held at the John Toomey Gallery, 818 North Boulevard, Oak Park, Ill., from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 30 and June 1-5, with extended hours on June 4 until 7 p.m.

Founded in 1982, the John Toomey Gallery has become a leading national and international resource for 20th century art and design. The Oak Park, Ill.-based gallery and auction house has its roots in the Arts & Crafts movement, with a special emphasis on Prairie School works, and has expanded over the years to become a leading force in the Mid-Century Modern and Fine Art markets.

Four major auctions are held annually at the Oak Park gallery space, these auctions are held in conjunction with long-time affiliate Treadway Gallery of Cincinnati, Ohio.
