NEW YORK, NY.- FLUX Art Fair, Harlems first contemporary art fair, was a tremendous success reported Leanne Stella the Fairs founder. The four-day event drew steady and enthusiastic crowds who praised the Fairs intimate scale, curated aesthetic and relaxed and friendly vibe. Featuring 57 international artists from over a dozen countries, FLUX presented a variety of work in all media that addressed a common theme - the 21st century artist as a nomad. Artists were selected by a group of highly accomplished independent curators including Danny Simmons, Rachel Weingeist, Raul Zamudio, Roger C. Tucker, Kristin Sancken, David C. Terry, Omo Misha, Rasu Jilani, Manon Slome, all lead by Fair founder, Leanne Stella.
Among those spotted strolling the fair were Hisham Tawfiq (The Blacklist), Vondie Curtis-Hall (Daredevil), Tamara Tunie (Law & Order: SVU), and Adam Dispirito (The Replacements), Jesse Williams (Greys Anatomy). Neighborhood notables Curtis Archer, president of the Harlem Economic Development Corporations and Harlem Arts Alliance Executive Director, Linda Walton, and Harlem Chamber of Commerces Voza Rivers were also on hand to support the launch of the new Fair.
We are overwhelmed by the response, said Stella. We have been fortunate to have had such marvelous support from our curatorial team, local businesses and the Corn Exchange Building without their enthusiasm we would not have been able to realize this vision.
Harlem has come roaring back, said Guest Curator Roger C Tucker III. With Marcus Samuelssons Harlem EatUp!, the FLUX Fair spotlights Harlems re-emergence as a place of vibrant culture, visual and performing arts, and innovative cuisine.
According to one fairgoer, Flux was lovely and intimate, but covered lots of ground. The works couldn't be more timely and relevant to the larger and immediate cultural conversation. Local gallerist Stephanie Calla of La Maison dArte added, Leanne is passionate about the artists and the neighborhood and FLUX is really putting Harlem on the art scene map with the big guys. She is a tremendous champion and resource for the community.
