Director Ed Wood Archive sells for $13k
Ed Wood was born in 1924 in Poughkeepsie, where he became attracted to horror and science fiction films shown in local movie theaters.

BOSTON, MASS.- Extensive archive of material owned by and related to Hollywood B-movie cult figure Ed Wood sold on Thursday for $13,750 according to Boston, MA based RR Auction.

Items include his personally-owned and -used briefcase (Rexbill split cowhide leather) and two trunks; four of his leatherbound notebooks containing original candids, Plan 9 material with Wood’s notations, and news clippings; two binders of photos including original candids, on-set photos, and movie stills; some scarce signed photos; a few items signed by Wood; his set of Jail Bait lobby cards; and various other items.

Ed Wood was born in 1924 in Poughkeepsie, where he became attracted to horror and science fiction films shown in local movie theaters.

During his childhood, Wood was interested in the performing arts and pulp fiction. He collected comics and pulp magazines, and adored movies, most notably Westerns and anything involving the occult. He would often skip school in favor of watching pictures at the local movie theater, where stills from the day's movie would often be thrown in the trash by theater staff, allowing Wood to salvage them to add to his extensive collection.

After World War II, Wood moved to Hollywood to make films.

His low-budget, campy movies were universally panned, but have now achieved cult status. Johnny Depp portrayed the filmmaker in the 1994 film, "Ed Wood."

“This is a truly remarkable collection of personal material from a sci-fi/horror icon,” said Bobby Livingston, Executive VP at RR Auction.

The live auction event was held on March 19 at the Royal Sonesta Hotel in Cambridge, MA.
