HONG KONG.- There was spirited bidding on the phones, in the room and online at the
Bonhams Fine Jewellery and Jadeite auction today in Hong Kong. The sale achieved robust results with top lots going to Asian private collectors.
There was heavy interest in both diamonds and jade, with many important lots selling above their high estimates. The top lot was the Flawless Collection of Hearts and Arrows Diamonds. This exceptionally rare collection of 16 D colour, Flawless, Internally Flawless brilliant-cut diamonds (weighing 39.98 carats total) sold for HK$ 20,280,000. A stunning collection of jewellery designed by Marina B was also well received by bidders and made a total of more than HK$ 10 million. Other highlights included a Jade Bangle that achieved HK$ 6,520,000 (estimate: 780,000-1,200,000) and a Fine Two Strand Jadeite Bead Necklace that achieved HK$ 5,200,000 (estimate: HK$ 250,000-450,000).
We are delighted with the result and it is testament to the strength of the Asian market for rare items such the Flawless Collection of Hearts and Arrows Diamonds and the Marina B jewels. The sale also excelled in the jadeite and gemstone categories, said Graeme Thompson, Director of Jewellery at Bonhams Asia. We look forward to bringing more rare, collectable and exclusive gems and jewels to the Asian markets next year.
