Longo: Men in Cities, a sale featuring a selection of Robert Longo prints from the artists Men in the Cities series, the most sought-after imagery from his entire oeuvre. The series depicts sharply dressed men and women caught mid-motion in contorted poses, and are an examination of urban life, as well as issues of masculinity and power.
Longo has continued evolving as an artist and has developed a signature style using contrast and shadow to highlight the dynamism of his subjects. This contemporary chiaroscuro, combined with his exploration of new media and technique, makes him one of the most groundbreaking and important artist working today, says artnet Auctions specialist Alex Benrimon.
Born in 1953, sculptor, painter, and draftsman
Robert Longo is well known for his bold drawings and sculptural works fusing pop culture and Fine Art. Longo was born in Brooklyn, New York, and his love of pop culture, cartoons, and print media as a child later significantly influenced his art. Longo attended the University of North Texas before deciding to study sculpture back in New York; he later received a BFA from SUNY Buffalo.
Works in the sale have estimates ranging from US$1,800 to 15,000. Longo: Men in Cities is live on artnet Auctions through November 18. View the sale now,
