NEW YORK, NY.- The Posters is a new e-commerce company based in Los Angeles launching in December 2014 with a simple premise: selling excellent posters by emerging and established international artists through ThePosters.co. When each poster is sold, The Posters gives a portion of the proceeds to arts education groups to pay for an hour of art class for underserved youth in American cities.
The Posters is co-founded by Adrian Rosenfeld, who is the Creative Director, and Athena Currey, who is the CEO.
Adrian, a former director of Matthew Marks Gallery, has worked with the worlds leading artists for 15 years including Ellsworth Kelly, Brice Marden, Thomas Demand and Jasper Johns. Athena has been an arts professional with experience working with commercial and non-profit arts organizations including Alleged Gallery and University Settlement.
At ThePosters.co people can buy beautifully made posters by artists, photographers, sculptors, and creatives of all different stripes. The Posters are affordable art. Every time a poster is sold, money is given back to the arts, creating an ecosystem supporting creativity. The Posters first arts education partner, Inner-City Arts, is located in a Michael Maltzan designed campus in the heart of Downtown LA.
The Posters posters each cost 55 dollars and are available for international shipping. For 55 dollars you get a big, beautiful picture that you can hang in your living room, office, or gift to someone special. They are not editioned works of art, however, each one is available for a short time only. Posters are available for a few weeks on the site regardless of the number sold. The Posters doesnt present limited editions, or advocate arbitrary scarcity. Once its no longer available on the site, itll be gone for good.
In December, ThePosters.co will launch with the first six posters online and also have pop-up poster locations in New York and Miami. The artists who work with The Posters get a cut of each sale or may choose to donate their profits to pay for more art classes for more kids.
The Posters are lithographs, measuring 24 x 30 inches, made with bright inks on archival-grade paper. Printmakers located in LA with over 100 years of experience print our posters to last a long time. You can pop them into a frame or paste them on your wall. The posters feel like art, because thats what they are.
