Ode To Art brings paintings, sculptures, photography and installation art by global artists to Singapore. This August, it continues to keep the love for art alive by introducing Deng Cheng Wen’s oeuvre to Singaporeans.
Deng is a rising new artist who hails from China. Ode To Art is proud to hold yet another exhibition with the artist, featuring a total of 20 new works from his latest ‘Blind Walking’ series.
The ‘Blind Walking’ series is an enthralling collaboration of realism and abstract representation. It touches on the questions of self-doubt that cripple youths of China. This breaks convention, as artists tend to eschew the insights of lost Chinese youth in a post-globalisation era. Deng uses motifs of t-shirts, leather jackets as well as serene smiles and other psychological actions in his works. The characters’ countenances suggest they seem to be seeking empathy and understanding as they find their way.
A look through Ode To Art’s first exhibition with Deng reflects on the artists’s mastery over the medium of oil, and the innovations of his conceptual backgrounds. However, a reflection of his present and upcoming art is even further enthralling than the last. With a progression into water colour as a propagator of not only his artistic capabilities, but as an enhancer of the dissent and transience of the concept phenomenon itself, the artist has crossed limitations of a multifold nature, bringing them together as ambient, thought provoking works that retain the awe inspiring aesthetics contained in his last.

Deng Chen Wen was born in Guangdong Province in 1981. In 2003, he was featured in the "Rising of the New Generations" contemporary art exhibition. He graduated from Tianjin Fine Arts College in 2006. One year after that, his work was featured as part of "Mirror Stage, Fable and Lie", a group exhibition at 9 Art Space, Beijing. Since then, he has held several solo exhibitions in Beijing, London and Singapore.
