PARMA.- Palazzo del Governatore in Parma hosts an exhibition dedicated to the Master of the suspense par excellence: Alfred Hitchcock. “Alfred Hitchcock in the Universal Pictures movies” is an initiative promoted the City of Parma with the special collaboration of the Italian division of Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.

The exhibition shows more than seventy photographs and special features from the archives of Universal Pictures, the American major that produced the films of Alfred Hitchcock from 1940 to 1976 realizing for the cinema a series of unforgettable masterpieces.

The aim of the exhibition is the investigation and the reproduction of the effect of suspense typical of Hitchcock films that, over the years, has terrorized - and perhaps continues to terrorize - millions of viewers. A photographic story want to move the audience into the backstage of famous films such as Rear Window (1954), Vertigo(1958), Psycho (1960), The Birds (1963) and Marnie (1964).

The film critic Gianni Canova follows the visitor along the exhibition itinerary through a series of videos that explain curious details about the making of of the most famous scenes, about the use of the special effects, about the actors and about the private life of the great master.

Thrill, suspense but also irony: a synthetic and biting sense of humor that we find in his works but also in his private life. A fun editing video shows the famous cameos of Hitchcock in his films: they were born as funny gags and then they became a sort of superstition for the filmmaker. One room of the exhibition itinerary is dedicated to the listening to soundtracks that have strongly identified some of the most famous Hitchcock films such as those created by Bernard Herrmann, American compositor who has written the scary music from the shower scene in Psycho and the unforgettable music theme of Vertigo. An opportunity to live or live again the emotions of the masterpieces of Alfred Hitchcock that, despite the flow of time and the innovation of the filmmaking, still remained impressed and go on to live in the collective imagination.
