NEW YORK, NY.- Who are the art world’s biggest spenders? Composed by ARTnews editors and correspondents around the world, the 24th annual ARTnews 200 is published with a larger number of new or returning collectors and an exciting addition.

This year, 33 collectors are new or returning to the list including Leonard Lauder of cosmetics company Estée Lauder, Campbell’s Soup heir Charlotte Colket Weber, fashion world’s Maramotti Family, and three couples of the retail giant Bed Bath & Beyond, Mitzi and Warren Eisenberg, Rebecca and Martin Eisenberg, and Susan and Leonard Feinstein.

Also named this year are fashion powerhouses Miuccia Prada and Maurice Marciano, advertising mogul Charles Saatchi, heirs to the French perfume empire Florence and Daniel Guerlain, English jeweler Laurence Graff, owner of Uniqlo Tadashi Yanai, artist Damien Hirst, media moguls and MoMA benefactors Patricia Phelps de Cisneros and Gustavo A. Cisneros, fashion design and retail magnates Agnes and Karlheinz Essl and Uli Knecht, publishing powerhouses Benedikt Taschen and Thomas Shao, and Walmart heiress Alice Walton.

Just over half of the ARTnews 200 collectors have primary residences in the United States; 13 reside in Switzerland; 12 in the United Kingdom; 11 each in Germany and China; and 8 reside in France.

Contemporary art remains the most popular type collected by those on the list, while Modern art, Postwar/Abstract, Impressionism/Post Impressionism, and Old Masters follow as the most purchased.

New to this year’s coverage, ARTnews introduces The Ten—a list of international visionary collectors who are shaking up the art world. The Ten includes Brooklyn Museum board president Stephanie Ingrassia and husband Tim Ingrassia, Hong Kong entrepreneur and one of the world’s youngest billionaires Adrian Cheng, founder of the SAHA Art Fund Füsun Eczacıbasi, Los Angeles County Museum of Art trustee Viveca Paulin-Ferrell, Belgian art collector Alain Servais, and founder of the Emdash Foundation Andrea Dibelius.
