DALLAS, TX.- Julian Onderdonk's 9-inch by 12-inch Bluebonnets, Cloudy Morning, San Antonio, Texas, 1916, a classic example of early Texas Impressionism, brought $81,250 in Heritage Auctions' May 17 Texas Art Signature Auction in Dallas. The auction realized $614,406 and was 95 percent sold by value as most lots met and exceeded estimates.

"We were pleased to see paintings by Julian Onderdonk take top lot honors," said Atlee Philips, Director of Texas Art at Heritage. "Given the strong results for this May auction, we are expecting equally strong response in the fall for those collectors interested in contemporary Texas art." Heritage's Oct. 18, 2014 Texas Art auction will feature The Belo Foundation Collection, proceeds of which will benefit the Belo educational foundation.

Heritage's auctions of Texas Art auctions are known for setting artist records and the recent sale saw Brick Cleaners, circa 1930-31, by Jessie Davis, reach $30,000, more than seven times its pre-auction estimate and a new record for the artist.

A painting titled Blackened Wood Derricks, 1951, by Edward Muegge "Buck" Schiwetz generated much pre-auction buzz before six bidders pushed its sale price to $21,250 against an $8,000 estimate. The artwork is one of the most important mixed media Schiwetz paintings to surface in some time. It combines his interest in architectural-engineering advancements (metal derricks) with a respect for their antecedents (wooden derricks).

Still Life with Pepper, Eggplant and Flowers, 1940, by Forrest Clemenger Bess, marked just the second time a work by the Bay City, Texas, artist was auctioned by Heritage. The painting was offered as displayed in one of Bess' handmade driftwood frames and it sold for $20,000.

Several artworks by Porfirio Salinas saw interest by multiple bidders as Untitled (Rural Settlement), a mid-20th century painting brought $27,500, Field of Bluebonnets, 1957, sold for $26,250, and Summer Texas Hill Country ended at $20,000. Salinas' Fall Landscape with Texas Red Oaks sold for $16,250 and Golden Country Creek Bed ended at $16,250.

• A Peach Orchard in Bloom, 1921, Julian Onderdonk. Realized: $32,500.

• Quiet Inlet, 1909, Julian Onderdonk. Realized: $18,750.

• Pit Stop En Route to the Homestead, by Tom Lea. Realized: $18,750.

• A Landscape No One Knows with Distant Silver Pyramid and Thunderheads, by Kelly Fearing. Realized: $16,250.
