NEW YORK, NY.- Gallery Molly Krom presents Crying Wolf, a solo show by Jon Campbell.

Jon Campbell is coming from Berlin, where he has lived for the past seven years, and he comes bearing tales. These personal fables are presented in two groups of works on paper: FLUT from 2012 and Crying Wolf from 2014.

FLUT, (flood in German) was inspired by the artist's trip to Sardinia. Flooded by images and music in this magical place, he was consumed by sensations, a feeling that he likened to drowning in water. Both cleansing and suffocat- ing, the experience found its translation in five pieces presented in this show. Executed with acrylic on paper, the series starts with work that is austere and quiet, all is submerged except a breathing pipe and the announcement: "FLUT e". The story progresses through three images with trees, houses and familiar words emerging from the "flood", only to end in a last image of fragmented chaos, without words, representing perhaps the urge to be flooded again.

Crying Wolf, a large acrylic on paper, was conceived as a sequel to FLUT. The perils of being consumed by ones senses, of succumbing to ones nature, the one of sheep or wolf, is presented in a rather literary depiction of a crying wolf and slaughtered sheep.

The work selected for this exhibition are fables of self realization, excess and awakening from having experienced something that is "more than enough."

Jon Campbell was born in Kingston, N.Y. He attended the School of Visual Arts and graduated Cum Laude from School of Art and Design at SUNY Purchase College. Jon has been living and working in Berlin since May 2007.
