SAN DIEGO, CA.- The San Diego Museum of Art has hired Anita Feldman as Deputy Director of Curatorial Affairs. Feldman will begin her role on May 5, 2014, and will lead the curatorial team responsible for the management of the Museum’s Permanent Collection, exhibitions, acquisitions, and research.

Feldman brings to the Museum nearly 20 years of worldwide curatorial experience, including her most recent role as head of collections and exhibitions at The Henry Moore Foundation in London. During her tenure at The Henry Moore Foundation, Feldman managed a collection of more than 12,000 objects, developed international and national exhibition programs, led conservation initiatives, and managed the curatorial, registrar, conservation, library and archive staff and budgeting.

“As a San Diego native, Anita’s rich international experience will be beneficial in our pursuit to broaden our international presence while continuing to develop and deepen connections with our local community,” said Roxana Velásquez, Maruja Baldwin Executive Director of The San Diego Museum of Art. “Her unique combination of creative, editorial, administrative and leadership skills is a perfect complement to the Museum’s dynamic team.”

While working at The Henry Moore Foundation, Feldman curated major exhibitions worldwide throughout the United States, Europe, Japan, China, and South America. Recent exhibitions include the 2013 exhibition of Moore Rodin, which featured important loans from the Musée Rodin in Paris and public collections throughout the UK. In 2008, the exhibition Feldman curated for The New York Botanical Garden, Moore and America, was ranked as part of Time Magazine’s ‘Top Ten Exhibitions of the Year.’

Feldman has spearheaded the publication of catalogues and journals on Henry Moore by major publications and institutions such as the National Gallery, Gagosian, Thames and Hudson, and Yale University Press.

“I am honored to lead the curatorial team for one of the region’s oldest and largest art museums,” said Feldman. “From procuring and highlighting The San Diego Museum of Art’s nationally renowned permanent collections to major exhibitions from around the world, my role as Deputy Director of Curatorial Affairs will focus on enhancing the rich and diverse cultural experience for our Museum’s visitors.”

In addition to her role within the curatorial department, Feldman will work collaboratively with the Museum’s planning and fundraising efforts.

A San Diego native, Feldman received her bachelor’s degree in art history from the University of California, Los Angeles, and her Master of Arts from the University of London.
