LOS ANGELES, CA.- On December 9 Bonhams Los Angeles achieved more than $2 million in its Fine European Furniture and Decorative Arts auction. In the packed sale room there was feverish bidding amongst a global buyers group, competing against each other in person as well as via phone and online.

A group of marble busts on offer made out with astounding results and proved to be "in demand" items to bidders. In particular, an Italian carved marble bust of a gentleman sold for an impressive $60,000. Not to mention seven carved marble busts from the featured collection of Universal Studios LLC all sold for a total of $67,500. Also from the Universal Studios collection, an imposing French gilt bronze mounted mahogany commode circa from 1900 sold for $43,750.

The top highlight of the sale came from a Steinway six-foot inlaid mahogany grand piano, which fetched $185,000 from an estimate of $20,000-30,000. There was no denying the exciting atmosphere of the auction as many vied for ownership of the decorative musical item.

Of particular interest to bidders within the French furniture section of the auction were a French Japonism table à thè, attributed to Gabriel Viardot, which fetched $52,500; a pair of Louis XV mahogany pedestals sold for $47,500 and a late 19th century matched pair of French gilt bronze and Chinese porcelain fish tanks also sold for an impressive value of $43,750. Lastly, a French gilt bronze mounted parquetry inlaid table à thé by François Linke established his market is as popular as ever, selling at $40,000.
