LONDON.- The moment which made a face that would go on to define a generation is to be shown for the first time ever at KATE MOSS: ROLL 1 at
Lawrence Alkin Gallery, Soho, London. Never-before-seen images of the icon, taken on her first ever photo-shoot at only 14 years of age, depict the supermodel as a fresh-faced ingénue on the cusp of world domination. Taken by the photographer David Ross, who though never could have predicted the importance of these images was still taken aback by the beauty captured by his lens, KATE MOSS: ROLL 1 comes on the eve of the supermodel’s 40th Birthday, marking 25 years after the first shots were taken.
Photographer David Ross, who has worked for the likes of Vogue, Arena and Saatchi & Saatchi, was asked by Sarah Doukas of the newly formed Storm model agency to shoot her model discoveries; one of these girls just happened to be Kate Moss. Ross comments: This first shoot with Kate Moss is a lovely piece of history, capturing her freshness and innocence with her first experience entering the world of fashion modelling. It's interesting thinking how she was back then, fresh up from Croydon – deep in South London - by herself on the train. I actually sent her home the first time she turned up because she arrived without a chaperone!
The second meeting came to produce the most astonishing photographs of one of the most well recognised faces of our time, and is the exciting debut exhibition for the new Lawrence Alkin Gallery. KATE MOSS: ROLL 1 recreates the day in which Kate Moss, supermodel, was first captured. The show runs at the New Compton street gallery from 30 October – 3 November and sells a selection of limited edition photographs from her first ever piece of professional film.
The new Lawrence Alkin Gallery is an independently run gallery exhibiting work from iconic artists and street talent. The small, friendly gallery located on New Compton Street is packed full of limited editions and originals from Sir Peter Blake and Damien Hirst to Pure Evil and US phenomenon Mr Brainwash.
