NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA.- The NoHo Senior Arts Colony, a new senior apartment community for adults ages 62+, has announced its new season of professional art shows, which will feature works from three Los Angeles-based artists.

The shows, which will be on display in the apartment community’s on-site art gallery, will feature works from local artists Cynthia Friedlob, Jan Edward Vogels, and Dan Meylor.

“The whole concept of the NoHo Senior Arts Colony apartments is centered around immersion in the arts,” says John Huskey, President of Meta Housing Corporation, the developer of the senior apartment community. “By designing this community with a full-scale art gallery, equipped with a professional-grade art hanging system, we are able to provide a place where people throughout the NoHo Arts District can come to enjoy beautiful art at no cost.”

Huskey notes that this concept is also beneficial to local artists, who now have a new venue in which they can share their works.

Each art show at the NoHo Senior Arts Colony apartments is free for the public to attend, and may be viewed every day between the hours of 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The new professional art show lineup includes:

July 9 - August 21: “A Vanishing Art - Hand Colored Photographs” by Cynthia Friedlob
This show, which features additional photography by John Semper Jr. is centered around the concept of art created by hand.

“Computers have made it easy to add color to photographs and, while some very artistic results are possible, the process does not result in a one-of-a-kind, finished work of art,” says Friedlob, the artist for this show. “It's sort of like the difference between mass production versus artisan-made, hand-crafted art. Also, there's something to be said for the value of keeping a traditional art form alive in the digital age.”

To welcome this collection to the NoHo Senior Arts Colony, the apartment community will hold a free opening art reception on Tuesday, July 9 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. that is open to the public. The event will include live entertainment, refreshments, and a chance for the public to meet Cynthia Friedlob and John Semper Jr. and discuss their works.

August 27 - October 9: “Caffeine Doodles” by Jan Edward Vogels
The art of “doodling” is taken to a new level in this show, which features a combination of brightly colored, hand drawn abstractions which are assembled into captivating montages.

The free opening reception for this show will take place on Tuesday, August 27 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The public is invited to attend and enjoy refreshments, live entertainment and a chance to meet the artist.

December 3 - January 15, 2014: “Wabi Sabi” by Dan Meylor
This photography show is centered around the Japanese theory of Wabi Sabi, which focuses on the third stage of the life cycle.

The artist notes that his photography is influenced by his years growing up on the prairie; a photographic journalistic interest in social issues; as well as a core belief in the truth of the statement “to everything there is a season.”
