AUBURN, IN.- Auctions America announced the addition of a new sale in Southern California, August 1 – 3 to its 2013 calendar. Named ‘Auctions America California’, the new sale is part of the Company’s national expansion strategy to increase its presence in key markets.
Held at the Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Airport hotel, a short drive from the Bob Hope International (Burbank) Airport, the multi-day collector car auction is expected to feature more than 400 quality collector cars, including a diverse assortment of American and European classics and sports cars, Detroit muscle, hot rods, and customs. From entry-level collectibles to motor cars perfectly matched to the veteran collector, the offering caters to a broad range of automotive tastes and budgets.

Leading early entries for Auctions America’s new California sale is a group of 42 automobiles from the Jim Carr Barn Find Collection of Napa Valley, offered at no reserve. Amassed over a 40 year period, the highly unique, timewarp collection spans more than 60 years of automotive history and includes everything from early American classics to late 1950s and ‘60s convertibles. The vast majority of cars included in the collection have been out of public view for more than two decades, presenting an exclusive range of ownership opportunities for discerning collectors. Highlights include a terrific series of pre-war Packards, including a 1936 Packard Twelve Convertible Sedan, complete with roll-up divider windshield; a 1936 Packard Eight 5-Passenger Convertible Sedan, finished in light green with a dark green beltline accent, dark green leather interior and tan canvas top, and a 1929 Packard Eight 5-Passenger Phaeton with dual windshields.
Illustrating Auctions America’s growing reputation as an auction house of choice for the sale of private and estate collections, the upcoming California sale will also lift the gavel on select automobiles from two additional prominent private collections.
Offered from a respected private Texas-based collection are a pair of completely restored Shelby GT500 Fastbacks; a sleek, left-hand-drive 1961 MG A 1600 Roadster with chrome wire wheels and a robust four-speed gearbox; and a classic 1974 Jaguar E-Type Series III V-12 Convertible finished in Pale Primrose with semi-reclining bucket seats and equipped with a powerful 5.3-liter, 285-hp V-12 engine. They will be joined by select examples from a prominent Southern California automotive museum including: a 1961 Mercedes-Benz 190SL accompanied by its original factory hardtop and softtop; a highly sought after 1962 Volkswagen Deluxe Microbus featuring special trim along the belt line, bumpers and rocker panels and a rare flip seat; and a 1949 Plymouth Woodie Wagon, perfectly matched to the California sale and featuring completely original wood, true period stickers from the ‘50s and ‘60s, and signatures from California icons including Jan & Dean, Frankie Avalon, and Mike Love of The Beach Boys.
