WILLIAMSTOWN, MASS.- —In a unique curatorial twist, the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute will launch Race to the Remix, a 48-hour competition that will determine the third installation of the uCurate exhibition. uCurate is an interactive program that invites users to design their own installations for a Clark gallery, using works featured in Clark Remix, an installation of some 400 works from the Institute’s permanent collection.

The race begins at 5 pm on January 18, 2013 and will conclude at 5 pm on January 20, 2013. The winning exhibition will open to the public on March 23, 2013.

When uCurate was launched earlier this year, the Clark announced plans to select three submissions for future installation in its exhibition galleries. The first, Giselle’s Remix, was created by eleven-year-old Giselle Ciulla after Clark curators reviewed more than 1,000 submissions; it runs through January 20, 2013. The second installation will be announced in early January and be on view February 2 through March 10. Race to the Remix represents the third and final installation of the uCurate series.

How to enter. Participants must register online at www.clarkart.edu/race by 5 pm on January 15. Each registrant will create a uCurate submission after race requirements are posted to the website.

Requirements. Race requirements—including three specific curatorial elements—will be posted online on January 18, 2013 at 5 pm. Race participants have until January 20, 2013 at 5 pm to create their exhibitions online and post them to the uCurate gallery on the Clark’s website. Race to the Remix is open to people of all ages. No curatorial experience is required.

Judging. The Clark’s curatorial team will judge all submissions created by registered race participants. Submissions will be judged based upon creativity and use of required elements. Only one winner will be selected.

Prize. The winning submission will be transformed into an exhibition that will be installed in the Clark’s galleries. The Race to the Remix winner will be named guest curator and will interact with the Clark’s curators to transform the virtual exhibition into an actual installation to be presented March 23 through April 28, 2013.
