“blip...blah...blog” an Online Art Exhibition

LAKE WORTH, FLORIDA.- The Palm Beach Institute of Contemporary Art (PBICA) is announced the launch of blip...blah...blog, an online exhibition exploring the phenomenon of Internet blogs.

For the next three months blip...blah...blog will link to three blogs offering an introduction to this new forum for personal statement and social critique. Exhibition curator Jody Servon states "a weblog or blog is an online journal created by individuals or groups to express ideas and present information in the form of Internet links and personal commentary." She adds "blogs are quickly gaining popularity as a powerful new medium for self statement."

The exhibitions purpose is to provide the web adventurer with a point of departure for their interactive web journey. The blogging format enables bloggers (blog authors) to utilize all the information available on the web. Their goal is not to keep you within their site, but to send the explorer out to discover other web sites.

THE BLOGGERS:

For the run of the exhibition blip...blah...blog will link to three blogs run by James Luckett, Heather B. Hamilton, and Cursor.org. The interests and personalities of the individuals responsible for these blogs are as varied as their format, content, design, and writing style.

Thirty-one year old James Luckett, was born and raised in Washington state and is currently residing in Tokyo. His blog provides witty commentary and links to art, popular culture, and oddities as well as humorous details regarding his daily existence in an unfamiliar culture.

Heather B. Hamilton, a twenty-six year old Los Angeles resident, recently lost her job as a result of the content of her blog. No longer posting anecdotes detailing her co-workers foibles and inadequacies, Heather continues revealing intimate details of her life and grappling with unemployment.

Cursor, org out of Minneapolis provides a Twin Cities as well as a national edition of their blog. Mike Tronnes, the eldest blogger of the three at forty-seven, began the politically bent blog after the 2000 presidential election debacle. While most bloggers post personal commentary, Mike and the other contributors at Cursor cull their information from news wires and news sites providing links to pages they exhibit an alternative take on current news, analysis and criticism.

EXHIBITION ACCESS:

blip...blah...blog is available on the web at the webiste below and in Palm Beach Institute of Contemporary Art's New Media Lounge. Visitors can click on PBICA's web art link to gain access into this exhibition. Curator Jody Servon's essay, written in blog format, highlights select words providing links to other web pages offering additional information on blogging.
