MALAGA, SPAIN.- Prince Philip of Asturias stated he supports the project to return the Picasso works to his natal city. The Picasso Museum in Malaga is scheduled to open on October 24, 2003 with a permanent collection of 186 works donated by his family. The Prince of Asturias visited Malaga together with the President of the Andalucia Government, Manuel Chaves, and the Culture Counselor, Carmen Calvo, among other authorities. The project of the Picasso Museum was presented to the Prince. Carmen Calvo stated to the press that the Prince had already a great amount of information on the new museum and stated that he asked for a complete history of the project. The Buenavista Palace was selected as the site for this new Picasso Museum because when Picasso was young he went to this building, where the Fine Arts Museum was located, and where his father was a curator.
