SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA.- A group called the Revolutionary Council for the Removal of Bad Art in Public Places has threatened to destroy a sculpture in Sydney unless it is dismantled. The group has set a three month deadline for the removal or dismantling of it. Otherwise, they will deface it or destroy it. The work this group does not like is titled Stones Against The Sky and is made up of seven steel poles crowned by large artificial stones. The artist who made the work is Ken Unsworth. He stated he was not moved by the threat of this group.
Dave Jarvoo, a spokesman of the group, said. “We have blowtorches, angle grinders and bolt cutters, and we will use them if necessary.”
The group was formed two years ago and it apparently includes teachers and students from two colleges nearby. Jarvoo said the members of the group have written letters of complaint to the local council and had no success. He said: “We are being forced to consider taking matters into our own hands. The mission of the council is to eradicate the disease and discomfort that bad art inflicts on the general psyche."
Ken Unsworth said: “The self-appointed judges of good taste should devote their energies to their own artworks. But if they want to have their fun and games, that’s fine with me, as long as they enjoy themselves."
