'Monumental' G.J. Dennis Elizabeth II caviar server expected to bring $70,000+ at Heritage Auctions
The auction, consisting of more than 720 lots, may well be Heritage’s finest Silver and Vertu offering to date.

DALLAS, TX.- A massive G.J. Dennis Elizabeth II silver figural caviar server, forged by London based G.J. Dennis Gold and Silversmiths in 2002 as a special Golden Jubilee year commission for The Silver Fund – weighing in at an astounding 1196 troy ounces – is the centerpiece in Heritage Auctions’ April 11 Fine Silver and Vertu Signature® Auction, taking place at the company’s Dallas Design District Annex, 1518 Slocum Street. The piece carries a pre-acution estimate of $70,000+.

The auction, consisting of more than 720 lots, may well be Heritage’s finest Silver and Vertu offering to date.

“The G.J. Dennis caviar server, crowned by a cast sturgeon and holding up to 650 ounces of caviar, is truly a monumental piece,” said Tim Rigdon, Director of Silver and Decorative Arts at Heritage Auctions, “and it’s the perfect piece to lead the very deep line-up this auction is offering to collectors.”

A Silver Creamer and Covered Sugar Bowl, designed and manufactured by Peter Muller-Munk, New York, New York, circa 1930, is the very height of Art Deco elegance and beautiful design. Muller-Munk works are rarely encountered outside of museum collections and, with an estimate of $30,000+, the set is the subject of much pre-auction buzz. A Gorham Silver, Ebony and Formica Circa ’70 Coffee and Tea Service with tray designed by Donald Colflesh in 1958, presents a superb Modern bookend to the previous piece. Manufactured by Gorham Manufacturing Co., Providence, RI in 1967, it carries an equal $30,000+ pre-auction estimate.

A pair of George III Silver Three-Light Candelabra, manufactured John Green, Roberts, Mosely & Co., Sheffield, England, circa 1800 is an elegant addition to the auction, with a pre-auction estimate of $15,000+, while a roughly contemporary George III Silver and Cut Glass Epergne, from Benjamin Smith, London, England, circa 1818-1819 also carries a pre-auction estimate of $15,000+. Two more Gorham pieces, a Silver Martelé Vase, from a series designed originally for the 1900 Paris Exhibition, and a Silver and Silver Gilt Tea and Coffee Service with Tray, both also carry pre-auction estimates of $15,000+.

Further highlights include, but are not limited to:

A 49 piece Hector Aguilar Silver and Rosewood Aztec Pattern Flatware Service: Hector Aguilar, Taxco, Mexico, circa 1940. 119.3 ounces (gross). Estimate: $15,000+.

A Four piece Georg Jensen Silver and Ivory Blossom Pattern Tea and Coffee Service with Tray: Georg Jensen, Inc., Copenhagen, Denmark, post 1945. 150.8 ounces (gross). Estimate: $18,000+.

A Guido Fiorentini Silver Covered Tureen with Underplate, Liner and Ladle: Guido Fiorentini, Milan, Italy, circa 1970. 218.7 troy ounces. Estimate: $12,000+.
