LONDON.- The Architect's Gallery is showing an international mix of artists from near and far this spring. Exploring their emotional responses to their surroundings, these artists present us with images of environment and imagination, layers of reality and dreams, and invite us on a journey of the mind.

Matt Bodimeade, better known in our gallery for his sculpture, here displays some new pastel drawings. Combining a delicacy of line with a sureness of colour and mark, he demonstrates his ability to move between mediums with confidence.

Carles Guitart combines the figurative and the abstract to question perception and ways of looking. He questions contemporary definitions and conventions and invites us to reinterpret classic images.

Jorge Hernandez work describes the connection between reality and dreams, myth and the everyday. Where are we? What are we seeing? His finely painted imagery jars with the oddness of the scenes.

Sarah Hubacher’s screenprints are multi layers of paint, printing ink, paper and metals. Married with her imagery, these materials lend a depth to her work whilst retaining an ephemeral quality.

Sergei Inkatov’s oils are emotional and expressive, full of light and life. His seascapes are dramatic, his townscapes glow, full of the movement of his mark making.

Richard Levine’s art plays with geometrical shapes and structures and blocks of colour. His works recall the 1960s and 70s, but with a 21st century spin. Richard experiments with pattern making which plays with light and movement. The symbiosis of shape, pattern and colour combines to form a new visual idiom.

Several new pieces by gallery favourite Choonja Payne herald her most prolific time of year. New light and growth in the beautiful surroundings of Richmond and Bushey Parks are represented in her soft brushstrokes and vibrant palette.

Chris Stone explores personal perceptions and freedoms, defying conventions of representation and encouraging us to question what we will do to pursue our need for validation.
