PARIS.- Presenting the last works of Jerome Revon, means offering a free trip in the heart of the Big Apple to the viewer :an urban and graphic city, always in movement.
The artist is fascinated by the works of Norman Foster, Jean Nouvel, Franck Ghery, Richard Meyer and many others. He likes to capture the soul of big cities like Paris, London, Beijing , Brussels,
For this exhibit he focuses his works on New York City.
Its a tribute to this city which has become one of the worlds leading capitals city of modern art since the 30-40. Then it became the birth city of Pop Art and Street Art and nowadays its always and definitely an eternal muse. A city where everything is possible, where encounters are easy and where movement, renewal and speed are major attributes.
Some people consider that New York belongs to the XXth century and the future of modernity is somewhere else, in others cities. But Jerome Revon shows that NYC hasnt lost anything about what she was: its always the big city, its colors are still shining and the passion seduces with the same power and the same movement. Shes definitely in the air.
At the beginning of his career, Jerome Revon started as a TV director (and hes still today) and it let him, owing to the splits1 technics, to set his look and his emotion to capture some different visions, some unusual perspectives and points of view, from details to a global view.
The movement is finally fixed and the intensity is still here and so the citys energy is extracted. It uses some symbols, puts one beside the other, graffiti and architecture. He also sublimates the details than we can see at the corner of a street and that we unconsciously remember.
So many shots which show the citys euphoria.
He appropriated the city and its icons and he worked on street arts details from Brooklyn and Harlem. These graffiti are mixed with the amazing pictures of famous yellow cabs and the fascinating Skyline of Manhattan.
Classic references and Art deco are mixed with more contemporary achievements and for the first time, splits include three or four different photographs.
At the beginning of his movie Manhattan, Woody Allen admits that he cant give a definition of New York. Its THE city of diversity, contrasts and shes perfect for divisions and mixtures work.
Jerome Revon fell in love with the City and for all these reasons he has chosen the title of a drawing of Twins discovered on a wall of latino neighborhood on which was written WE LOVE NYC.
Jerome Revon sublimes the Urban but the Human isnt really present in his works, letting the viewer to project himself in this décor. He represents indirectly the Human through his environment. It enables the viewer to question himself on his look and to project himself, while staying en retrait to look the urban land as it is.
He also fixed in the unconscious the fighting soul and spirit of this city which is never dying. A city of liberty and hope which is always moving forward with a humble malice.
Jerome Revon (1962) lives and works in Paris. He is very early fascinated by photography and his favorite subject of study is urbanism so he captures all the atmospheres of the places he visits.
At 22 old years he begins his first TV achievements. Nowadays he is one of worlds most famous TV Directors for Live shows.
Since 1997, he is also a producer.
He won two major French awards for his work on the Olympic Games of Barcelona in 1992 and in 1997 for the TV show Capital.
The artist becomes Chevaliers des Arts et des Lettres in 2007.
He is an artist who works with many supports but it is always the same talent which inspires himself: an outstanding look on the surrounding world.
